The Shimano Di2 battery SM-BTR1 for external mounting is a rechargeable lithium-ion battery for older and current Shimano electronic shifting groupsets. It is attached to the outside of the down tube with a bracket and is suitable for both internal and external cable routing. The battery has a maximum range of 2000 kilometers.

What happens if the battery charge level drops?
If the charge level is less than 25 %, a red warning light on the control unit of the cable starts to glow permanently. However, it can still be shifted over a distance of about 250 kilometers. If the battery is completely discharged, the red warning light flashes. In the worst case, first the front derailleur fails and then the rear derailleur stops in its current position. Of course, it can still be ridden.
